Jezersko Planšarsko Lake Easy Alpine Walk in Slovenia

Jezersko is a beautiful alpine valley in northern Slovenia, surrounded by the impressive Kamnik–Savinja Alps. The area is known for its green meadows, forests, mountain streams, and peaceful mountain scenery.

One of the best places to start exploring the valley is Planšarsko Jezero. From here, you can follow pleasant paths through the natural surroundings, with small streams and mountain views along the way. I recommend this walk if you want an easy outdoor experience and a chance to enjoy the peaceful alpine landscape.

History of Jezersko

The history of Jezersko is closely connected with the landscape of the valley. The area was once covered by a large glacial lake, which gave the valley its name. In 1348, a powerful earthquake damaged the natural barrier, and the lake gradually drained away. The former lakebed later became land used for farming and settlement.

For centuries, the valley was also an important route between Carniola and Carinthia. People travelled through the surrounding mountain passes for trade and communication with neighboring areas.

Agriculture, forestry, and traditional mountain life shaped the local community over the centuries. Today, traces of this history remain part of the character of the valley alongside its natural and alpine scenery.

Starting the Visit at Planšarsko Jezero

The walk starts near Planšarsko Jezero, where parking is available close to the lake. From the beginning, you can enjoy views of the surrounding mountains and the peaceful landscape.

A pleasant walking path begins near the lake and leads through the natural surroundings. The first part is easy and relaxing, making it a good starting point for exploring the area before continuing towards the viewpoint.

Walking Route to the Viewpoint Above Jezersko

I started the walk near Planšarsko Jezero and followed the path through the natural surroundings. The first part was easy and pleasant, with the lake and mountains nearby.

After the section around the lake, I continued along a forest path. I followed it until the trees finally opened up and I reached an open meadow with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.

This was my favorite part of the walk. Once I reached the open meadow, I could see the mountains much better, so I stopped there to take photographs and enjoy the scenery. I stayed at the viewpoint for quite a while because I simply did not want to leave such a beautiful view.

Easy Walk for Families and Nature Lovers

This is an easy walk that I would recommend to families with children, beginners, and hikers who want a relaxed outing without a demanding climb. The route is short enough to enjoy at a comfortable pace, while still offering plenty of natural scenery along the way.

I think it is especially nice for families because there are interesting things to see during the walk, including the lake, forest paths, open meadow, and mountain views. You can take your time, stop for photographs, and enjoy nature together.

For me, the beautiful scenery at the end makes this short walk well worth doing.

Mountain Views and Alpine Scenery

The mountain scenery is one of the main reasons I enjoyed this walk. From the beginning, you can see the peaks around the valley, but the view becomes much more impressive once the forest opens onto the meadow.

From this open area, the surrounding mountains appear much more clearly, including the areas around Kranjska Koča na Ledinah and Češka Koča. The wide view across the valley makes this a great place to stop and take photographs.

I spent a long time enjoying the view because there was so much to see. The combination of the open meadow, forests, and high alpine peaks made this one of my favorite parts of the walk.

I recommend a visit to Jezersko to everyone, especially taking the walk at least as far as the viewpoint. The mountain views from the open area are beautiful and make the short walk well worth doing.

My Experience

I walked towards the viewpoint where the mountains, Kranjska Koča na Ledinah, and Češka Koča can be seen. When I reached the open meadow, I was so impressed by the view that I stayed there for at least an hour, simply enjoying the mountains and the peaceful surroundings.

I also took many photographs during the walk, especially at the viewpoint. It was one of those places where I did not feel like leaving because the scenery was simply too beautiful.

Best Time to Visit Jezersko

I think Jezersko is worth visiting in every season, as the landscape changes throughout the year. Spring and summer are especially pleasant for walking, when the meadows are green and the surrounding mountains are clearly visible.

Autumn brings colorful forests and a different atmosphere, while winter gives the valley a completely different appearance with snow covering the landscape.

If you want to enjoy the viewpoint and mountain scenery, I recommend choosing a clear day. During winter, extra caution is needed because the paths can become icy and slippery. I recommend appropriate hiking and mountaineering equipment and footwear suitable for the season.

Trail Conditions

The route towards the viewpoint is easy to follow, with the first part passing through natural surroundings before continuing along a forest path. The final section opens onto a meadow, where the terrain becomes more open and the mountain views are much wider.

The path is generally suitable for an easy walk, but natural surfaces can become muddy or slippery after rain. I recommend paying attention to the conditions underfoot and choosing footwear that provides good grip.

What to Bring

For this walk, I recommend bringing water, comfortable hiking shoes, and clothing suitable for the season and current weather.

A small backpack is enough for snacks, personal items, and a camera. I also recommend taking a camera with you because the open meadow and mountain views offer excellent opportunities for photographs.

In colder months, make sure your footwear and other hiking equipment are suitable for snow, ice, and changing mountain conditions.

Why Visit Jezersko?

This walk is worth doing because it combines several different experiences in a short distance. You can start at Planšarsko Jezero, follow the path through the forest, and finish on an open meadow with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.

I recommend this walk to families, hikers, photographers, and anyone who wants a peaceful outdoor experience with a rewarding mountain view.

Photography

I took many photographs during this walk, especially after reaching the open meadow. Once the forest opened up, the wider view of the mountains made it impossible not to stop and take photographs.

Planšarsko Jezero also offers interesting photography opportunities, especially when the water is calm and the surrounding mountains are reflected on its surface. Along the route, I also enjoyed photographing the forest paths, small streams, and natural surroundings.

The viewpoint was my favorite place for photography. I stayed there for at least an hour, taking photographs and enjoying the view of the mountains, Kranjska Koča na Ledinah, and Češka Koča. There was simply so much to see that I did not want to leave.

Final Thoughts

The walk from Planšarsko Jezero to the viewpoint is a simple but very rewarding experience. The route combines the peaceful atmosphere around the lake, a pleasant forest path, and an open meadow with an impressive view of the surrounding mountains.

The final part of the walk is especially beautiful when the forest opens up and the mountain landscape comes into view. From the meadow, you can see the surrounding peaks, including the areas around Kranjska Koča na Ledinah and Češka Koča.

The viewpoint is a perfect place to slow down, take photographs, and enjoy the scenery without rushing. It is easy to understand why this part of Jezersko leaves such a strong impression.

I recommend visiting Jezersko and walking at least to this viewpoint. The route is easy, but the beautiful mountain scenery makes it feel much more rewarding than the short walking time might suggest.
