Štefanja Gora Easy Hike Near Ljubljana
Štefanja Gora is a beautiful hiking destination above the village of Adergas in Slovenia. I enjoy this short hike because the route combines a steep beginning with easier sections before reaching the summit.
The trail starts with a strong uphill climb, but it soon becomes flatter and continues at a more comfortable pace. Later, another short steep section leads towards the top, where beautiful mountain views make the effort worthwhile.
From Štefanja Gora, I especially enjoy the views towards Kočna, Grintovec, and Krvavec. On a clear day, the mountains look surprisingly close, creating a beautiful panorama from the summit.
Starting the Hike in Adergas
The hike begins in Adergas, where I parked near the church before setting off towards Štefanja Gora. The trail starts with a steep uphill section, so the climb begins almost immediately.
After the initial ascent, the trail levels out and becomes much easier. This flatter section continues for some time and provides a more relaxed part of the walk before the route starts climbing again towards the summit.
Walking Route to Štefanja Gora
Once the trail levels out, the walk continues through peaceful forest surroundings for quite some time. This section is much more relaxed than the steep beginning and gives you a chance to enjoy the natural scenery along the route.
Further ahead, the trail becomes steeper again for a short section. The climb is not long, and after gradually gaining the remaining elevation, you reach the upper part of Štefanja Gora and continue towards the summit.
Easy Hike for Families and Beginners
Štefanja Gora is a good option for families, beginners, and casual hikers who prefer a shorter outing. Although the hike starts with a steep section, the route becomes much more comfortable afterwards, with a longer easier stretch before the final climb.
The hike does not take a full day and offers a rewarding summit without requiring advanced hiking experience. With comfortable footwear and a steady pace, it is a pleasant way to spend some time outdoors and enjoy the surrounding landscape.
Summit and Views
The summit of Štefanja Gora is marked by the Church of St. Stephen, giving the destination a distinctive character. After following the trail through the forest, reaching the top feels like a rewarding finish to the hike.
The views are especially impressive on a clear day. Kočna, Grintovec, and Krvavec stand prominently in the landscape and appear surprisingly close from the summit. The combination of the church, open views, and surrounding mountains makes this a memorable place to stop and enjoy the scenery.

I have visited Štefanja Gora several times and always enjoy coming back. The peaceful natural surroundings make the hike relaxing, while the mountain views are what attract me most to this place.
The steep beginning of the hike is followed by a longer, easier section, making the walk feel more varied. After the final climb, reaching the summit feels especially rewarding.
What I enjoy most is the view towards Kočna, Grintovec, and Krvavec. The mountains appear so close from Štefanja Gora that you almost get the feeling you could reach them from the summit. This impressive scenery is one of the main reasons I keep returning and enjoying this hike.
