Tamar Valley Winter Hike in Slovenia

Tamar Valley is one of the most beautiful winter hiking destinations in Slovenia. Located near Planica in the Julian Alps, this scenic valley offers a peaceful walking experience surrounded by forests, snowy landscapes, and impressive mountain views.

The valley is especially beautiful during winter when the entire area transforms into a quiet snow-covered landscape. The trail is easy to follow and suitable for families, beginners, and anyone who wants to enjoy nature without a difficult climb. The history of Dom v Tamarju goes back to 1899, when the first mountain hut was built in the valley. It was later destroyed by an avalanche, and a new mountain hut was built in 1936. The hut has been renovated several times and remains an important part of Tamar Valley today.

One of the highlights of the hike is the view towards Mount Jalovec, one of the most iconic mountains in Slovenia. For more experienced hikers, the nearby Sleme hike offers another beautiful mountain adventure with impressive views of the Julian Alps. The combination of mountain scenery, fresh alpine air, and a relaxing walking route makes Tamar Valley a perfect destination for a winter day trip.

The hike starts near the Planica Nordic Centre, close to the village of Rateče. Visitors can park their car in the parking area near Planica, where the hiking route towards Tamar Valley begins.
