Tamar Valley and Dom v Tamarju
Tamar is one of the most beautiful alpine valleys in Slovenia, located at the upper end of the Planica Valley. It is surrounded by impressive mountain peaks and is a popular destination for hikers throughout the year.
Dom v Tamarju stands at 1,108 metres above sea level. From Planica, a gravel road leads through the forest to the mountain hut, making Tamar a popular choice for a shorter mountain walk.
The history of the hut dates back to 1899, when the first small shelter was built. After being destroyed by an avalanche, a new mountain hut was established in 1936 and has since been renovated several times.
Near the hut, visitors can see a small chapel and the Nadiža stream, which emerges from the rocks and forms a small waterfall. The valley also offers beautiful views of Jalovec, Velika Mojstrovka, Travnik, Šit and other surrounding peaks.
Tamar is beautiful in every season. Summer is popular for hiking and cycling, while winter brings snow-covered scenery and cross-country skiing. It is a peaceful destination for enjoying the Julian Alps and the surrounding mountain landscape.
