Triglav Lakes Valley Alpine Paradise in Slovenia
The Triglav Lakes Valley is one of the places in Slovenia that left a strong impression on me. Located in the heart of Triglav National Park, the valley is surrounded by mountain peaks, alpine meadows, rocky terrain, and several beautiful mountain lakes.
I reached the valley by hiking from Koča pri Savici via the Komarča Trail. The climb is demanding, with steep sections, steel cables, and exposed parts of the trail, but the landscape becomes more impressive as you gain elevation.
After the demanding ascent, arriving in the Triglav Lakes Valley feels especially rewarding. The peaceful surroundings, mountain scenery, and beautiful lakes create a completely different atmosphere from the busy areas lower in the valley.
For me, the combination of a challenging mountain trail and the peaceful alpine landscape made this a hike I will remember. If you enjoy demanding mountain hikes and want to experience one of the most beautiful areas of the Julian Alps, the Triglav Lakes Valley is definitely worth visiting.
My Experience
I started the hike from the parking area near Koča pri Savici and followed the marked Komarča Trail towards the Triglav Lakes Valley. From the very beginning, the trail was steep and I gained elevation quickly.
The climb required a lot of concentration because there are many steep and exposed sections with steel cables. I had to be careful with every step and take my time, especially where the trail became more demanding.
The Komarča Trail has also become more difficult to pass in recent times because fallen trees have affected some parts of the route. It is still possible to get through, but I recommend extra caution and using a helmet, particularly in these sections.
Although the climb was demanding, I enjoyed seeing the landscape change as I gained more and more height. Reaching the Triglav Lakes Valley after such a steep ascent made the effort feel worthwhile.
For me, the hike was challenging, but it was also a memorable mountain experience. The combination of the demanding trail, beautiful alpine surroundings, and peaceful atmosphere made the journey to the Triglav Lakes Valley special.
Hiking Route to Triglav Lakes Valley
The route to Triglav Lakes Valley starts at Koča pri Savici and follows the marked Komarča Trail. It climbs steeply through the forest, and you gain elevation quickly from the beginning.
As you continue higher, the terrain becomes more demanding, with steep sections, exposed parts, and several steel cables along the route. This part of the hike requires concentration and careful walking, especially on exposed sections.
The trail continues upwards through mountain terrain until the landscape gradually opens and becomes more alpine. After the demanding ascent, you eventually reach the beautiful Triglav Lakes Valley.
Here, a peaceful mountain landscape stretches between surrounding peaks, alpine meadows, rocky terrain, and beautiful lakes. Reaching this area after such a steep climb makes the arrival especially rewarding and gives you a chance to stop, rest, and enjoy the scenery.
Nature and Experience
What I enjoyed most about Triglav Lakes Valley was the peaceful atmosphere after the demanding climb. Once I reached the valley, I could slow down and take in the surrounding mountains, green meadows, rocky terrain, and alpine lakes.
The landscape felt very different from the steep Komarča Trail below. After concentrating on every step during the ascent, it was nice to have more open space and time to enjoy the scenery.
I also liked the feeling of being surrounded by nature with very little noise around me. For me, this combination of wild mountain scenery and peaceful surroundings is what makes Triglav Lakes Valley such a special place to visit.
Photography
Triglav Lakes Valley is a great place for photography because the scenery changes throughout the hike. The forest, steep mountain terrain, rocky sections, alpine meadows, and surrounding peaks all offer different subjects along the way.
I especially enjoyed taking photos after reaching the valley, where the open landscape gives you a much wider view of the surrounding mountains and lakes. The peaceful atmosphere also gives you time to stop and take photos without feeling rushed.
For me, the combination of the alpine lakes, mountain peaks, green meadows, and rugged landscape makes this one of the most rewarding places to photograph in the Julian Alps.
Final Thoughts
The hike to Triglav Lakes Valley was a demanding but rewarding experience for me. The steep Komarča Trail required concentration and careful walking, but reaching the valley made the effort worthwhile.
I especially enjoyed the change in scenery from the steep forest trail to the open alpine landscape. Being surrounded by mountains, meadows, rocky terrain, and lakes created a peaceful atmosphere that I really appreciated after the climb.
For me, this is a hike where the journey is just as important as the destination. The demanding ascent makes arriving at Triglav Lakes Valley feel even more special, and it is an experience I would recommend to hikers who are properly prepared for a challenging mountain route.
