Koča na Triglavskih jezerih Alpine Hut

Koča na Triglavskih jezerih is one of the most special mountain huts I have visited in Slovenia, set deep in the spectacular Triglav Lakes Valley. Reaching the hut takes a demanding climb from Koča pri Savici, but the changing scenery and impressive alpine surroundings make the effort worthwhile.

The trail follows the Komarča Trail and climbs through forest and steep mountain terrain before opening into the beautiful landscape of the Triglav Lakes Valley. Along the way, the surroundings gradually change from dense woodland to rugged alpine scenery, giving the hike a real mountain feeling.

Arriving at the hut feels especially rewarding after the long ascent. The nearby Double Lake, surrounding peaks, green mountain meadows, and peaceful atmosphere create an unforgettable setting in the heart of Triglav National Park.

For me, this is not simply a hike to a mountain hut. It is an experience of the Julian Alps, where the demanding trail, wild landscape, and beautiful lakes all come together to create one memorable mountain adventure.

Starting the Hike to Koča na Triglavskih Jezerih

We parked at the same parking area used for the hike towards Komna. From there, I followed the marked mountain trail towards Koča na Triglavskih jezerih via the Komarča Trail.

The Komarča Trail is a demanding route with a steep ascent, and you gain elevation quite quickly. There are several sections with steel cables and exposed parts of the trail, so extra caution is needed throughout the climb.

I had to pay close attention to every step, especially on the steeper and more exposed sections. The trail requires careful movement and is not a route where you should rush.

The steep climb and the changing terrain make the beginning of the hike quite challenging, but they also give you a real feeling of being in the mountains from the very start.

My Experience

I started the hike from the parking area near Koča pri Savici and followed the marked Komarča Trail towards Koča na Triglavskih jezerih. The trail was demanding from the beginning, with a steep ascent and a rapid gain in elevation.

There are many sections with steel cables and exposed parts along the route, so I had to be very careful with every step. The steep climb makes this a route where you really need to concentrate and take your time.

The trail has become more difficult to complete in recent times because some trees have fallen across parts of the route, making access more challenging. It is still possible to get through, but I recommend extra caution while walking and using a helmet, especially in these sections.

What I noticed during the hike was how quickly I gained height. The steepness makes the climb physically demanding, but it was also interesting to see how the trail took me higher into the mountains.

For me, the Komarča Trail was definitely not an easy walk. It required caution and effort, especially on the exposed sections and around the fallen trees, but it was also an interesting and memorable part of my hike towards Koča na Triglavskih jezerih.

Recommended Hiking Gear

Because the Komarča Trail is steep and includes exposed sections with steel cables, I recommend wearing proper hiking shoes with good grip. Good footwear is especially important when you need to concentrate on every step along the steeper parts of the route.

I would also recommend using a helmet on this route. Fallen trees have made some parts of the trail more difficult to pass in recent times, so extra protection and caution are worthwhile.

A small hiking backpack is enough for the route, but make sure you carry enough water and some food for the demanding climb. Trekking poles can also be useful, although on sections with steel cables you may need both hands free.

Because conditions on the trail can change, it is a good idea to check the current situation before starting the hike and allow yourself enough time to complete the route safely.

Best Time to Visit Koča na Triglavskih Jezerih

I would recommend choosing a period with stable and dry weather for this hike. The Komarča Trail is already steep and demanding, and wet conditions can make the exposed sections and rocky terrain more difficult to manage.

Summer is a popular time for the hike because the days are longer and the mountain conditions are generally more suitable. Spring and autumn can also be beautiful, but weather conditions in the mountains can change quickly.

I would be especially careful after strong winds or storms because fallen trees can make parts of the route more difficult to pass. Before starting the hike, it is worth checking the current trail conditions and weather forecast.

For me, good weather is particularly important on this route because it allows you to concentrate on the trail and enjoy the mountain scenery without adding unnecessary difficulties.

Nature and Experience

The Triglav Lakes Valley offers a true alpine adventure away from busy roads and everyday life. The combination of clear mountain lakes, dramatic peaks, peaceful trails, and untouched nature makes this one of the most special hiking destinations in Slovenia.

Walking through this valley feels like entering another world, where every part of the journey brings new views and unforgettable moments.

Trail Conditions

The Komarča Trail is a demanding marked mountain route with a steep ascent and several exposed sections. There are many steel cables along the trail, so careful movement and concentration are important throughout the climb.

The trail has also become more difficult to access recently because of fallen trees in some sections. It is still possible to pass through, but these areas require additional caution and careful walking.

Because of the steep terrain, exposed sections, steel cables, and fallen trees, I recommend taking your time and paying attention to every step. I also recommend using a helmet, especially when passing through the more difficult sections of the trail.

What to Bring

For the Komarča Trail, I recommend proper hiking shoes with good grip because the route is steep and includes exposed sections. Good footwear is especially important when the terrain becomes more demanding.

A helmet is also something I recommend for this route. Because there are exposed sections, steel cables, and fallen trees along parts of the trail, it is better to have additional protection.

Make sure to bring enough water and some food for the climb. A small hiking backpack is sufficient for carrying your essentials without adding unnecessary weight.

I would also recommend clothing suitable for changing mountain weather. Before starting the hike, check the weather and current trail conditions so you can be properly prepared for the route.
