Piz Boè Hike Dolomites
I started early in the morning from Passo Pordoi (2,239 m). I was looking forward to experiencing the climb on foot and reaching the summit of Piz Boè.
At first, I walked across gentle meadows, but the trail soon became much steeper. I entered the scree slope and followed the long series of switchbacks upwards. After about an hour and a half of intensive climbing, my calves were really feeling the effort, but I had gained more than 600 metres and reached Forcella Pordoi (2,845 m).
Crossing the saddle felt like entering a completely different world. The green landscape disappeared and I found myself surrounded by a vast, grey and rocky plateau that looked almost lunar. I continued towards the summit, enjoying this unusual high-mountain landscape.
The final section became steeper and more exposed, with rocky terraces, scrambling, and protected sections with steel cables. I had to use my hands in some places and pay close attention to my steps.
Just under three hours later, I reached the summit of Piz Boè at 3,152 metres. Standing beside the wooden cross and knowing I had walked the entire route on my own was an incredible feeling. The 360-degree views of Marmolada, Sassolungo, and the surrounding Dolomites were spectacular. I took a short break at Capanna Piz Fassa before heading back down.
