Cycling to Soriška Planina in the Slovenian Alps

Cycling to Soriška Planina is a challenging but rewarding mountain cycling experience in the Slovenian Alps. This scenic climb takes you through quiet mountain roads, forest sections, traditional villages, and beautiful alpine landscapes.

The road quickly gains elevation, making this route a real test of endurance and determination. Every uphill section requires effort, but the peaceful nature, fresh mountain air, and changing scenery make the ride enjoyable from start to finish.

Soriška Planina also has an interesting history. The peaks around the mountain plateau were once crossed by the Rapallo border, which separated the Kingdom of Italy from the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes after the Treaty of Rapallo in 1920. Today, remains of this period can still be found around Soriška Planina, including bunkers, military paths, observation posts, and other defensive structures.

As you continue higher, the views gradually open up, revealing wider panoramas of surrounding hills, valleys, and mountain peaks. The combination of a demanding climb, interesting history, and beautiful scenery makes Soriška Planina a special destination for cyclists who enjoy adventure and outdoor challenges.

The beginning of the ride follows quieter roads through the countryside, where cyclists can enjoy views of forests, villages, and green landscapes. The first part is more comfortable, but it is important to manage your energy because the steeper climb comes later.

Maintaining a steady pace is recommended because the climb becomes more demanding as the elevation increases.
