Starting the Hike in Trnovec

The hike starts near Trnovec in the Polhov Gradec area, where parking is available close to the trail access point. From there, the marked hiking trail leads towards Setnica and continues in the direction of Polhograjska Grmada.

The beginning of the route follows quiet forest paths surrounded by peaceful countryside. The trail gradually climbs through the woodland, making this first part of the hike pleasant and relaxing.

Trnovec is a convenient starting point for exploring Polhograjska Grmada and enjoying the peaceful natural surroundings of the Polhov Gradec Hills.

Walking Route to Polhograjska Grmada

From Trnovec, I followed the marked trail through the forest towards Polhograjska Grmada. I enjoyed this part of the hike because the trail was peaceful and surrounded by beautiful woodland.

The path gradually climbed as I continued towards the summit. Most of the route was comfortable to walk, although the final section became noticeably steeper.

I had to pay a little more attention there, especially because some parts were slightly exposed. When the trail is wet after rain, it can also become slippery, so I recommend taking your time and wearing good hiking shoes.

For me, the forest scenery and peaceful atmosphere made the climb enjoyable, even though the final part required a little more effort.

Summit and Views

After reaching the summit of Polhograjska Grmada, I was rewarded with beautiful panoramic views across the surrounding hills and valleys. The open summit was a great contrast to the forested trail I had followed on the way up.

I especially enjoyed taking some time at the top to look across the landscape and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. On a clear day, you can also see some of the higher Slovenian mountains, including Triglav in the distance.

For me, the views were definitely one of the highlights of the hike. After the climb through the forest, reaching the open summit and seeing the surrounding landscape made the effort worthwhile.

My Experience

I started my hike from the road leading towards Gonte. I reached the starting point by car, but I recommend driving carefully because the road is quite narrow and there are no protective barriers in some places. A small stream also runs alongside the road, so it is worth paying attention while driving.

After parking, I continued towards the Gonte tourist farm, where I followed the hiking trail towards Polhograjska Grmada. I enjoyed walking through the forest and the peaceful surroundings along the way.

The final section became steeper and slightly exposed, so I took my time and paid more attention, especially because the trail can be slippery when wet.

Once I reached the summit, I really enjoyed the panoramic views across the surrounding hills and mountains. For me, this was the highlight of the hike and made the climb well worth the effort.

Overall, I really enjoyed the hike and would recommend Polhograjska Grmada to anyone looking for a scenic and rewarding mountain walk near Ljubljana.

Best Time to Visit Polhograjska Grmada

I think Polhograjska Grmada is worth visiting in every season, as the landscape changes throughout the year.

In spring, I would enjoy the fresh green forests and blooming nature, while summer is a good time for walking through the shaded forest. Autumn would be especially beautiful because of the colorful trees covering the surrounding hills.

Winter can also be a great time to visit, but snow and ice may make the trail more difficult. If I were hiking in winter, I would definitely take proper winter hiking equipment and pay extra attention on the steeper sections.

Trail Conditions

During my hike, I found the trail easy to follow, with clear markings along most of the route. The forest paths were pleasant to walk on, and the steady uphill climb made the hike feel manageable.

The final section was more demanding because the trail became steeper and slightly exposed. I would be more careful there after rain, as the ground can become slippery.

For this reason, I recommend wearing sturdy hiking shoes with good grip. In winter, snow and ice can make the steeper sections more challenging, so extra caution and appropriate winter equipment are advisable.

What to Bring

For this hike, I did not need a lot of equipment, but I would still recommend bringing enough water and wearing comfortable hiking shoes with good grip.

I usually take a small backpack with me, which is enough for water, a snack, a camera, and a few other essentials. Trekking poles can also be useful, especially on the steeper sections near the summit.

It is also a good idea to check the weather before setting off and choose clothing according to the conditions, particularly during the colder months.
