Steep Trail to Velika špica Above Kamnik Slovenia

Velika špica (660 m) is a beautiful summit above Kamnik in Slovenia. The trail to the summit is relatively short and quite steep in places, making it a rewarding hike for anyone who enjoys gaining elevation quickly.

I really like this trail because of the steep climb to Velika špica. You gain a good amount of elevation in a relatively short time, and reaching the summit with its beautiful views makes the effort worthwhile.

The route starts in Kamnik and follows a peaceful forest trail towards the summit. The forest provides shade along much of the route, although the steep climb can still be demanding, especially during warmer weather.

As you get closer to Velika špica, the trail becomes less steep and more comfortable. The final section leads to the summit, where you are rewarded with a beautiful view over Kamnik and the surrounding landscape. On clear days, you can also see part of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.

My Experience

I really enjoyed this hike to Velika špica. One of the main reasons I like this trail is the steep climb. It gives you a good workout and allows you to gain elevation quickly without spending a long time on the trail.

I recommend drinking enough fluids during the hike, especially on warm and sunny days. Because of the steep climb, staying hydrated and taking a short break when needed can make the hike more comfortable.

As I continued towards the summit, the trail gradually became less steep. The final part was more comfortable, and soon I reached Velika špica.

The view from the top was the highlight of the hike. Looking over Kamnik and the surrounding landscape, with part of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps visible in the distance, made the climb worthwhile.
