Velika špica Above Kamnik Slovenia

Velika špica (660 m) is a beautiful summit above Kamnik in Slovenia, offering a rewarding short hike and lovely views of the surrounding landscape. The trail starts in Kamnik and leads through peaceful forest towards the summit.

I really like this trail because it is quite steep, so you gain elevation quickly and reach the summit without a long hike. Despite the steeper climb, I find the trail comfortable and enjoyable.

As you get closer to Velika špica, the trail becomes less steep and more comfortable. The final part of the route leads towards the summit, where you are rewarded with a beautiful view over Kamnik and the surrounding landscape.

From the summit, you can also see part of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps on a clear day. The combination of a relatively short trail, quick elevation gain, peaceful forest, and a beautiful viewpoint makes Velika špica a great little hike near Kamnik.

My Experience

I really enjoyed the hike to Velika špica. This is one of my favorite things about the trail because it is quite steep, but still comfortable to walk.

The steeper section allows you to gain elevation quickly, which means you do not have to spend a long time hiking before reaching the summit. I enjoy this type of trail because the climb feels rewarding and you reach the top relatively quickly.

As I continued higher, the trail became less steep before reaching the summit. The forest surroundings were peaceful, and the changing gradient made the walk enjoyable.

Reaching Velika špica was the highlight of the hike. The beautiful view from the summit made the climb worthwhile. Looking over Kamnik and seeing part of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps made the short hike especially rewarding.

Velika špica is also very close to Stari grad Kamnik, so the two destinations can easily be combined into one hike. I visited Velika špica first and then continued towards Stari grad Kamnik.

Parking

There is a large gravel parking area at the starting point in Kamnik.

Parking is paid from Monday to Friday, from 7:00 to 15:00. Outside these hours, parking is free.

The parking area provides a convenient starting point for the hike towards Velika špica and nearby Stari grad Kamnik.

What to Bring

Although the hike to Velika špica is relatively short, comfortable hiking shoes are recommended, especially because some parts of the trail are quite steep.

Bring enough water, particularly during warmer weather, and a small hiking backpack if you plan to continue towards Stari grad Kamnik.

A camera is also worth bringing because the summit offers beautiful views of Kamnik and the surrounding mountains.

Velika špica

Velika špica is a 660-metre summit above Kamnik. It is a separate summit located very close to Stari grad Kamnik.

The trail leads through peaceful forest and climbs quite steeply in places. This makes it possible to gain elevation quickly and reach the summit in a relatively short time.

Before reaching the summit, the trail becomes less steep. The final section is more comfortable and leads towards the beautiful viewpoint.

Views From Velika špica

The main highlight of Velika špica is the view from the summit.

From the top, you can enjoy a lovely view over Kamnik and the surrounding landscape. On clear days, you can also see part of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.

The summit is a great place to stop, take photographs, and enjoy the scenery after the climb.

During winter, snow and ice can make the steeper sections slippery, so appropriate footwear and extra caution are recommended.

Why Visit Velika špica?

I particularly like this route because of its steeper climb. You gain height quickly, but the trail remains comfortable, and before the summit it becomes less steep.
